Hunter Douglas Kitchen Window Treatments
Your kitchen is the heart of your home. Family gatherings, celebrations, or just dinner with your spouse all create happy memories. If it’s time to refresh your kitchen windows but you aren’t quite sure which direction to go in, we are here to help. We have put together some factors to consider when purchasing window treatments for your kitchen.
Environment of the Room
While delicate sheer shades may be on your list of loves, they aren’t necessarily the best choice for your kitchen. The window coverings in this room will be exposed to grease, smoke, odors and humidity. You will want something hardy but attractive like Everwood® Alternative Wood Blinds. They will not warp or crack from moisture, so humidity is no problem, and they can be cleaned frequently.
Amount of Light
How much natural light would you like in your kitchen? Good lighting is essential for cooking, but too much UV from natural light can damage the surfaces of cabinets and flooring. If your kitchen gets a lot of sun, you may want a roller shade to block UV rays and provide some temperature control. Nobody likes their kitchen to be any hotter than necessary.
Overall Aesthetic
Most kitchens have a lot of sharp lines, and glossy surfaces; think large appliances and cabinet faces. Window coverings are a chance to soften the overall look of the room. A shutter in a neutral hue will give you the look you want while also adding value to your home. An alternative wood option will give you the look of authentic wood, but without the risk of damage from moisture or UV rays. A shutter will also not go out of style in the near future, so your room won’t look dated.
Available Space
Unless you plan to remodel in the near future, it’s crucial to work with the space you have. Many modern kitchens have a lot more open space than in previous years. If you have a large, open kitchen or wide expanses of windows, honeycomb blinds may work best. Should you need a more space-saving option, roller shades mounted inside the frame will take up the least amount of space and be less obtrusive.
Long Term
If there’s a chance you will be selling your home, you will want to make sure your kitchen windows look good. The kitchen is a “make or break” room for many home sales. Shutters add monetary value as they are considered a permanent fixture. If shutters are not your cup of tea, no problem. Any high-quality window treatment will make a positive difference in the room.
